No. 15 CSUSM Pummels Lethbridge, Increases Win Streak to Five

Box Score OCEANSIDE, Calif. – AJ Gasporra scored 28 points and went 5-of-5 from 3-point range in the No. 15 Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team's 93-53 win over Lethbridge in the final game of the New Year's Cougar Classic on Saturday night at MiraCosta College.

The Cougars' 40-point win is the largest in team history, three points better than the mark they set in Friday night's 96-59 win over UC Merced. CSUSM (13-4) has now won its last five games and eight of its last nine.

Gasporra shot 8-of-10 from the field and was perfect from behind the arc and at the line (3-of-3) to set a new season-high for the Cougars. His 28 is the third-highest single game point total in team history. Over his first three games in Cougar blue, Gasporra is averaging 24.0 points on 59-percent shooting.

After Lethbridge (5-7) climbed back from a 13-point hole to pull within four at the 9:54 mark, CSUSM put together a 26-0 run over the next 9:29 to take a 30-point lead into halftime.

The Pronghorns could not make a game out of it, and Adam Alfaro eventually handed the Cougars their biggest lead of the game, 89-44, with 3:21 left.

Danny Redmon and Jose Rivera each registered 13 points while Quincy Lawson added 10. Redmon was 6-0f-7 from the floor and tallied nine assists, a new season-high for the Cougars.

Rivera was 4-of-8 from 3-point range as the CSUSM set a new program-best with 14 3-pointers (14-of-22, 63.6%). The Cougars also pulled down a season-high 48 boards.

J. Spear Chief-Morris scored 23 and Chaz Johnson recorded 11 for the Pronghorns.

CSUSM will celebrate the New Year before traveling to play The Master's College on Saturday, January 5, 2013. The Cougars' next home game is on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 against NCAA Division III opponent Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 p.m.
