Box Score OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The No. 15 Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team set a school record for points and win margin in a 96-59 thumping of UC Merced on Friday night in the New Year's Cougar Classic on Friday night at MiraCosta College.
Four players finished in double digits and every player on the active roster scored as CSUSM (12-4) earned its fourth-straight victory.
UC Merced remains winless on the year at 0-13 overall.
AJ Gasporra led the Cougars with 17 points, while
Jacob Ranger and
Quincy Lawson added 15 apiece.
Jose Rivera tallied 12 on 4-of-8 shooting from behind the 3-point line.
Adam Eakles pulled down a game-high seven boards.
CSUSM (12-4) led from the get-go, jumping out to a 12-point lead, 23-11, on Rivera's 3-pointer 10 minutes in.
Up 18, the Cougars used a 20-7 run over the final 6:16 to take a 31-point advantage into the break, 56-25. CSUSM shot 61.3% in the half, led by Ranger's 3-of-4 clip from 3-point range.
CSUSM led by as many as 45 in the second half, 79-34, on
Adam Alfaro's layup off a feed from Gasporra with 8:56 left.
The Cougars wrap up the New Year's Cougar Classic against Lethbridge tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
