Box Score RENO, Nev. – Adam Eakles scored 18 points while
Danny Redmon,
Bryan Emanuel and
Hakeem Washington added 12 in the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team's 84-74 exhibition loss to Nevada on Friday night at Lawlor Events Center.
Eakles went 8-of-10 from the field and Emanuel went 3-of-4 from behind the 3-point line. Redmon and
Jacob Ranger each had four assists.
Nevada (8-4), an NCAA Division I team, jumped out to a 26-10 out of the gate and never trailed in the game.
Down 11 with 3:28 left in the first half, CSUSM (10-4) put together a 13-5 stretch to pull within two at the break.
AJ Gasporra's jumper and a pair of free throws from Redmon capped the run with the Cougars trailing 37-35.
The Cougars' deficit stayed in single digits for the first five minutes of the second frame, but Nevada eventually stretched its lead to as much as 21 with 6:21 remaining.
CSUSM closed the game on an 18-7 run to pull within 10.
Gasporra finished with seven points and six boards in his first action as a Cougar.
Friday's contest marked the third time the Cougars have faced an NCAA DI opponent in an exhibition this year. CSUSM previously played San Diego State and UCLA.
The Cougars return to action next week with three games at MiraCosta College. On Thursday, Dec. 21, the Cougars host the University of Alberta at 7:30 p.m. The following two days, CSUSM hosts the New Year's Cougar Classic, which will feature Hope International, Lethbridge and UC Merced.
CSUSM plays UC Merced at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, before facing Lethbridge at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29.
