Kelly Lord and
Adam Alfaro helped spark the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team to a 64-54 win over Rocky Mountain at the Tip-Off Classic hosted by Robert Morris and Concordia (Calif.).
Alfaro, in his first minutes of 2012-13, went 2-of-2 from the field and hit a key three pointer late in the game to help the Cougars victory. He finished with seven points and three assists.
He and Lord substituted in CSUSM down 10 in the first half, and helped the Cougars overtake the Battlin' Bears by five, 35-30, at the halftime break.
“Those guys came in off the bench and instantly gave us a spark,” said CSUSM assistant coach Josh Dunaj. “From then on we were able to take control of the game.”
Quincy Lawson led the Cougars with 17 points, nine boards and five steals. The forward from Oceanside was 8-of-10 from the field.

Jose Rivera did what he does best by hitting three of his seven three pointers on his way to a 10-point outing.
Jacob Ranger contributed nine points and point guard
Hakeem Washington added eight points and five steals.
The Cougars improve to 2-1 overall after its win over RMC and a 91-75 beating of No. 4 Robert Morris on Friday night.
CSUSM hosts No. 13 Biola in its first home game of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at MiraCosta College. Biola beat CSUSM 66-56 in the only other meeting between the teams on Nov. 16, 2011.
