SOCC-TOBER IN SAN MARCOS
The Cougars' matches in Utah will be their last on the road this season. CSUSM will play its final seven contests of the year on Mangrum Soccer Field, including the Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament Nov. 9-10.

NAIA GAME OF THE WEEK
Saturday's CSUSM-Carroll contest has been dubbed the NAIA Game of the Week. The match will be the fifth-straight against a ranked team for the Cougars, who have won back-to-back games in overtime. The Fighting Saints come into the match as one of seven unbeaten teams in NAIA. Their only tie was on Sept. 21 at College of Idaho. CSUSM and Carroll have never faced each other.

FIRST…
The Cougars face the Griffins of Westminster, winners of five of their last six contests. The Griffins fell in their last game at then-No. 22 Carroll, 3-2. Down 3-0 in the 70th minute, Westminster rallied for a pair of goals to bring it within one. Their only other loss this season was a 4-0 decision to then-No. 10 Westmont. CSUSM beat Westmont, 3-2, on Sept. 18 in overtime at the CSUSM Multipurpose Field.

CARDIAC COUGS
After a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss to then-No. 18 Concordia (Calif.), CSUSM rebounded for a pair of golden-goal victories over then-No. 7 Westmont (Sept. 18) and then-No. 12 Vanguard (Sept. 22). Goalkeeper Amanda Sears poked-in an 88th-minute goal to force overtime against the Warriors before CSUSM eventually prevailed on an own goal. Against Vanguard, Dani Porter scored less than two minutes into the first extra period to hand the Cougars a 2-1 win. The back-to-back overtime wins mark the first time in program history in which CSUSM has won consecutive games via golden goal.

STAYIN' FRESH
Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Sears had quite the challenge going into the season, replacing four-time All-American Kaycee Gunion while taking over a defensive unit which allowed just six goals in 2011. However, Sears has already registered the first-ever goal by a CSUSM goalkeeper while posting a 1.27 goals against average and .727 save percentage in seven starts.

IT'S WORTH NOTING…
The Cougars' No. 10 ranking is the team's highest this season … Shelby Bush and Porter lead the Cougars with three goals apiece on the season … Bush needs seven more goals to tie Lauren Johnson's school record of 28 … CSUSM is 5-0-1 this season when scoring first … In their only other neutral-site match this season, the Cougars topped NCAA DII's Seattle Pacific, 2-1 … CSUSM is 7-2-2 in neutral matches since 2008 … Carroll ranks amongst the Top 25 nationally in shutouts (5), assists per game (2.4) and total assists (24) … CSUSM is 4-2 in one-goal games this year … Porter has scored in three of her last five contests.

The six-game tournament will crown a men's and women's champion and hand two automatic NAIA tournament berths to the winners.
