BUMP IN THE ROAD
The Cougars saw their six-match unbeaten streak snapped last Wednesday against Point Loma Nazarene before drawing 1-1 with UC Santa Cruz on Friday. Both opponents hailed from the NCAA (PLNU is DII, UCSC is DIII). The fall against PLNU was CSUSM's first since Sept. 13. The Cougars rebound this week against a pair of teams that have never beaten CSUSM, nor scored a goal.
SOKA UP FIRST
The Lions enter Tuesday's contest 2-2-1 over its last five, including shutouts wins against Mills and Bethesda on Sept. 28 and Oct. 12, respectively. CSUSM is 3-0 all-time against SOKA, outscoring the Lions a combined 10-0. The Cougars won 2-0 in 2011 on goals from
Brianne Searl and
Kelly Skvarna.
EMBRY-RIDDLE
CSUSM enters Saturday's match with Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) 5-0 all-time against the Eagles, including a 2-0 win in the 2011 A.I.I. Tournament semifinals. ERAU has been hot of late, winning three of its last four; the team has also only lost once in its last 11 contests. Goalkeeper Brenna Quinn was named the CalPac Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 17 after breaking the school-record for shutouts in a win over Marymount.
