“We got a great goal to go up. We need to be able to close those games out, though,” said CSUSM head coach
Ron Pulvers. “We played hard and I was pleased with the effort.”
Three and a half minutes into the second frame, UCSC got one back. Drew Dowis found an unmarked Sam Li off a corner to make it 1-1.
Jessica Wilds had an opportunity late in regulation, but her volley off
Brianne Searl's long service was high and wide.
The Cougars' final opportunity came with 30 seconds left in the second overtime off a free kick. Searl played a high-arching ball that gave the Slugs' keeper trouble, but it deflected off the crossbar.
