The Cal State San Marcos Men's Basketball team rebounded from a tough first half to nearly knock off William Jessup on the road, but couldn't quite complete the comeback Thursday night.
CSUSM scored just 16 first half points, very uncharacteristic for the high-flying Cougars, but reverted to form after halftime, scoring 45 in the second half. CSUSM was able to cut the lead to just 3 on an
Alpha Ndiaye put back with 13 seconds remaining, but the host Warriors hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Cougars were able to spread the ball well offensively, as 5 scorers reached double figures in points. AJ Chamberlain led the Cougars with 13 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, while
Jamel McGuire,
Tim Steed,
Alpha Ndiaye, and
Jacob Ranger each added 11 points.
Tim Steed had a career game defensively, recording 7 steals, but the Cougars were unable to block a shot for the first game all season. With the loss, CSUSM falls to 11-8 on the season, and will play next on Saturday at Pacific Union. Tip-off for that game will be at 8pm.
