Women's Soccer Earns Big 1-0 Win at #12 Master's

Box Score #9-ranked Cal State San Marcos women's soccer earned a big road win on Saturday, traveling to #12 Master's College and coming away with a 1-0 victory.

CSUSM improves to 7-1-1 on the year.  Master's drops to 6-3.

After losing their first game of the season last Tuesday at home to #6 Concordia, the Cougars had something to prove on Saturday against another top-15 opponent.

But the early game was controlled by Master's, thanks largely to a very strong wind on the field that was in their favor in the first half.  Master's out-shot CSUSM 8-1 in the period, but 3 Kaycee Gunion saves and solid play from the back line kept the match at 0-0.

As the teams switched sides of the field at the half, so too did the match turn around.  The Cougars would pounce on Master's as soon as the second half began, playing terrific soccer and tilting the field towards them.  Finally in the 57th minute, CSUSM would get the breakthrough on an Arielle Cohen goal that was set up by Erin Mulrooney.

That would be all it took, as CSUSM locked down Master's for the remainder of the match to close out the 1-0 victory.  Gunion made 4 saves total in the win.

Cal State San Marcos will be back at home on Tuesday to take on San Diego Christian at 2:00 PM.
