It's not often one walks away from Las Vegas as a big winner. However, for the third time in three days, the Cal State San Marcos Men's Basketball team has walked off the court in Vegas having done just that, defeating Great Falls (MT) 85-59 Friday night.
The Cougars won all three games of the tournament by 24 or more points, including an especially impressive victory over Robert Morris, the likely #1 team in the NAIA when the next polls come out. However, Friday night's win was also nothing to scoff at either, as Great Falls entered the tournament 11-1.
The San Marcos offense was clicking, as it has been all tournament, and the Cougars controlled the paint, outscoring the Argonauts 48 to 20 inside the key. CSUSM shot nearly 51% from the field, while holding Great Falls to only 40%, and forced 19 Argonaut turnovers.
The Cougars passed the ball effectively, as 5 different players scored 12 or more points for San Marcos.
Tim Steed had a game-high of 19, while
Jacob Ranger and AJ Chamberlain added 16. Chamberlain also had a game-high 10 rebounds, giving him his second straight double-double, and his 8
th of the season.
Jamel McGuire had 15 points for the Cougars, and
Danny Redmon contributed 12 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals.
CSUSM, now 9-7, will get a few days off, and play next January 3
rd at Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, CA.
