The Cal State San Marcos Men's Basketball team got off to a great start at the Las Vegas Classic, winning their opener against the Lethbridge Pronghorns 75-50 Wednesday night. Jim Saia's squad came out sharp despite traveling from Provo, Utah earlier in the day after last night's game against BYU.

The game was tied 18-18 with 8:25 left in the first half when the Cougars went on a 19-2 run capped off by a AJ Chamberlain fast break layup that left the score at 37-20. The Cougars led at halftime by 10, and continued to roll in the second half, outscoring the Pronghorns 34-19 the rest of the way.

Chamberlain scored in double digits for his 8th straight game, leading the Cougars with 23 points on 10 of 14 shooting. He also filled up the box score with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks. Jacob Ranger added 18 points and 3 steals for CSUSM.

Much of the Cougars offense was generated by its strong defense, as the Cougars forced 20 turnovers and held a 31-9 edge in points off turnovers. The Cougars also had 51 of their 75 points in the paint.

CSUSM plays NAIA #2 Robert Morris (PA) tomorrow in what should be an excellent matchup. The Eagles recently defeated #1 Concordia (CA) in overtime, a team that the Cougars nearly upset three weeks ago before falling 92-88. CSUSM is now 7-7 on the season.
