Box Score Playing on the final day of the Holy Names Thanksgiving Classic in Oakland, Cal State San Marcos men's basketball picked up its third straight win, defeating William Jessup 56-44.
The Cougars improve to 5-3 in their inaugural season. William Jessup drops to 2-7.
In contrast to some of the high-flying wins the team has picked up so far this season, CSUSM won a slower, lower-scoring contest Saturday night. It's good early-season experience for a team very much still in the learning process.
“We're getting better and trying to gain perspective of where we're at,” noted Assistant Coach Josh Dunaj. “We're trying to get a little bit better each day, especially coming into this monster week.”
There was nothing slow-paced about the first half, as CSUSM jumped out to a 40-24 lead early, then grinded out the second half to secure the comfortable victory.
A.J. Chamberlain posted a double-double for the Cougars, scoring a game-high 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Tim Steed and
Jamel McGuire scored 11 each, and
Danny Redmon dished 7 assists and grabbed 6 boards.
The Cougars will now host a pair of very tough GSAC foes: Cal Baptist on Thursday, December 1
st; and Concordia (CA) on Tuesday, December 6
th. Both games are at MiraCosta College starting at 7:30 PM.
