Box Score In what is a testament to both the team's staunch defense and its ability to consistently manufacture enough offense to get on the scoresheet, Cal State San Marcos women's soccer won its fifth 1-0 match of the season on Sunday, on the road over Holy Names.
The #7-ranked Cougars improve to 11-1-1 on the year. Holy Names drops to 4-8.
Though the scoreboard showed a close match, Coach
Ron Pulvers' Cougars were in control from the beginning, generating some extremely dangerous chances that could have stretched the game. Only one was finished, courtesy of
Shelby Bush with an assist from
Amy Alber, but it was enough to get the win.
After a bit of a mid-season swoon, Bush has been in great form lately, scoring for the second consecutive match. Her and fellow forward
Lauren Johnson wreaked havoc on the Holy Names defense for all 90 minutes.
The Cougars' back four had an excellent match, helping keeper
Kaycee Gunion pick up the shutout with relative ease.
Lauren Misklevitz was her usual solid self in the middle as well.
“We had tremendous leadership from our six seniors,” commented Coach Pulvers. “It was a very balanced 90 minute effort.”
The Cougars will finish their road trip by playing at William Jessup tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
