Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 in Overtime to Master's

Box Score

A controversial finish capped off a game between two ranked teams at Mangrum Field on Wednesday, as #12 CSUSM women's soccer fell 1-0 to #22 Master's College on a penalty kick in overtime.

CSUSM falls to 3-1-1 on the season.  Master's improves to 4-0-1.

The game provided precious few chances, as both teams seemed content to keep the ball in the midfield and play solid defense.  The squads combined to put just eight shots on goal, though both did have legitimate scoring opportunities in regulation.

Shortly into the first overtime, there was contact at the top of the CSUSM box, and a penalty was awarded to Master's.  Andie Reyes calmly finished the opportunity to provide what was a shockingly abrupt ending to the match and disappoint the home crowd.

Master's keeper Amanda Diamond made five saves to earn the shutout.

CSUSM women's soccer will look to rebound this Sunday when they host Hastings (NE) at 11:00 AM (moved up from noon).
