#14 CSUSM Women's Soccer Earns Third Straight Tie, 1-1 with Concordia

Box Score

Cougar women's soccer earned its fourth tie in its last five games on Thursday, going on the road and playing Concordia to a 1-1 draw.

#14 CSUSM is now 4-1-5 on the year.  Concordia is 5-2-2.

The Cougars, who after scoring 10 goals in their first four games have now tallied just 2 in their last six, were able to overcome an early deficit to earn the draw on the road against a quality opponent.  The squad showed plenty of life on offense and created numerous dangerous situations, and overall it was a solid effort from Coach Ron Pulvers' Cougars.

"The team played hard today, and created really good chances," commented Pulvers.  "We just have to seize the moment and finish chances."

After conceding just their fourth goal this entire season in the 60th minute, the Cougars responded quickly 8 minutes later.  Taylor Schurman hit a free kick from around midfield into a large group of players in the box, finding the feet of Arielle Cohen, who drove a well-placed shot into the back of the net.

The 1-1 tie persisted through regulation and two overtime periods.  Kaycee Gunion made 3 saves in net for the Cougars.

CSUSM is now on its midseason break, and will return to action October 7th at home against Soka.
