Box Score Newly-selected Association of Independent Institutions Pitcher of the Year Brenna Sandberg wasted no time in living up to her title on Thursday, throwing a no-hitter in the Cougars' first game of the A.I.I. Tournament, a 4-0 win over Ohio Dominican.
The #1-seed Cougars are now 36-13 this season. #4-seed Ohio Dominican drops to 29-24-1.
The Cougars got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first as Alyssa Dronenburg singled home Alicia Ingram.
CSUSM extended the lead in the fifth, as a wild pitch and subsequent error plated top-of-the-lineup speedsters Elizabeth Bush and Alicia Ingram. The Cougars got their final run the following inning, with Bush coming around to score on a throwing error.
Meanwhile, Sandberg made sure the outcome was never in doubt. The Cougar ace walked two and struck out five, going the full seven innings without allowing a single base hit to pick up her 34th win of the season.
The Cougars will play again tomorrow against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
