Box Score Playing in their final regular season match of the season, Cougar women's soccer closed the campaign out in style in front of the home crowd with a 4-0 victory over Marymount.
CSUSM closes out the season 10-1-5, and can now begin preparation for the A.I.I. Conference Tournament. Marymount drops to 5-10.
After a frustrating first half that featured plenty of opportunities but no goals – bringing back memories of the team's mid-season swoon – CSUSM came out in the second half and quickly took care of business. For the game, the Cougars out-shot Marymount 35-5, holding a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The scoreless tie was broken in the 52
nd minute, as
Taylor Ziencina found
Natalya Erbel alone in the box at point blank range, and Erbel finished the opportunity. Less than three minutes later, a scramble in front of the net ended when
Taylor Schurman knocked home a rebound to make it 2-0.
CSUSM would continue to press, and in the 62
nd minute,
Lucia Asbury scored the team's third goal, kicking in a Schurman cross. Finally, in the 73
rd minute
Kristin Poggioli slipped
Mary Green in behind the defense, and Green blasted a shot past the keeper to make it 4-0.
