Competing in a field that included NCAA schools like BYU and San Jose State, Cougar cross-country posted two very competitive finishes, with the women taking 7th in the 5K and the men placing 8th in the 8K.

For the CSUSM women, who are ranked #1 in the NAIA this week, the team's "big 3" continued to perform.  Dallon Williams led the way as usual, running a blistering time of 16:55 to finish 4th.  That time matches her school-record that she set at this same event last year.

Next on the squad was Cady Villarreal.  The star sophomore also had the recordbook in her sights, as she ran 17:23 to take 10th.  That time makes her the 4th top performer in school history.

Junior Jessica Sandoval was not far behind, taking 16th place with a time of 17:31 - matching the 5th best mark in school history.

Also competing for the Cougar women were Kelly Thompson (68th; 18:14), Lindsey McKown (71st; 18:17), Sin Carrano (85th; 18:30), Cassidy Reich (126th; 19:03), Jen Allbright (129th; 19:06), and Jenna Nicholl (158th; 19:35).

On the men's side, one week after winning at UC Irvine, up-and-coming superstar Muluken Baressa cracked the top-10 this Saturday.  He took 9th with a time of 24:21.  The junior transfer from Mesa College is already within 6 seconds of the all-time school record, and he's in just his second meet.

The rest of the team turned in solid results.  Senior Dave Edwards took 46th with a time of 25:26, Pat Fitzgerald ran 25:49 to finish 67th, and Chris Capeau finished 100th with a time of 26:15.  Chris Strasheim rounded out the team's top-5 by finishing 123rd with a time of 26:34.

Also competing for the Cougars were Bernardo Bahena (140th; 26:48), Dave Slack (210th; 27:47), Mark Shimmin (216th; 27:49), Miguel Vega (256th; 28:43), Antonio Sanchez (266th; 28:58), Thomas Polhill (289th; 29:36), Wes Ryan (322nd; 31:02), and Dimitri Eraditius (329th; 31:50).

CSUSM cross-country will be in local action on October 10th at UCSD.
