Box Score Playing on the road on Friday, Cougar women's soccer turned in a strong effort, defeating Soka University 2-0.
The win moves the Cougars over .500 to 5-4-4 on the season. Soka falls to 3-7.
CSUSM controlled the game from beginning to end, outshooting Soka 21-1 and holding a 10-2 corner kick advantage. Keeper Kaycee Gunion stopped the one shot she faced to earn the shutout.
The Cougars, who have had trouble at times finding the back of the net even in games that they've clearly had the upper hand in, had no trouble on Friday. Brittany Boyce got the team on the board early, finding the back of the net in the 15th minute, and Kelly Wherry added a second off an assist from Shelby Bush in the 41st minute.
CSUSM will be back home tomorrow to play a big conference game against Embry-Riddle (AZ).
