Box Score On Wednesday, Cougar women's soccer went toe-to-toe with the #4 ranked team in NCAA Division II, and battled the UCSD Tritons to a scoreless tie.
The still-unbeaten Cougars are now 2-0-2 on the year.
It's very much a quality result for a Cougar team that is looking very strong early this season. CSUSM out-shot UCSD by a slim margin, 23-22, and put 10 shots on goal to UCSD's 6. Starter Taylor Ziencina and super sub Taylor Schurman took 5 shots apiece, with each putting 3 on net.
For the fourth time in as many games, the Cougar back line held strong. Back line starters Lauren Hernandez, Michele Ramirez, Alex Quindt, and Breanna Brenton continued their excellent play, and keeper Kaycee Gunion kept her shutout streak alive with an outstanding performance.
"Kaycee was unbelievable," commented Head Coach Ron Pulvers. "That was one of the finest goalkeeping performances I've seen in college soccer."
Pulvers also added that the entire back line played a superb match.
"They're becoming such a nice unit," noted Pulvers. "Lauren [Hernandez] in particular was awesome, and last night Alex played one of her finest matches as a collegiate soccer player."
CSUSM is still yet to be scored upon this season - holding opponents scoreless for a combined total of 400 minutes.
The Cougar women have a week off and will resume action next Wednesday when they host Master's College.
