Crystal Harris was named Interim Head Women's Basketball Coach on July 7, 2014 after two seasons as an assistant on the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball staff.
Prior to her time at CSUSM, Harris served three seasons as an assistant at Cal State Fullerton. Before CSUF, Harris spent two seasons at Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich.
Harris served as a volunteer assistant for the women’s basketball program at Palomar College in 2005 and 2006.
At CSUF, Harris assisted in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, scouting, and player development. On the court, she worked directly with the backcourt, assisting in developing the Titans' perimeter players.
In her second season at Ferris State in 2008-09, Harris was elevated to interim head coach. During her tenure, Ferris State posted a 30-27 record and was 21-19 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
A native of Vista, Calif., Harris has significant playing experience on the professional level. She played in the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) for the San Diego Siege, as well as internationally in Switzerland for Club Elfic-Fribourg. She also played in Demark for Club HBC. She led both of her international teams in scoring and rebounding, and helped guide the San Diego Siege to a first place league finish.
A 2005 graduate of the University of California-Riverside with a degree in Sociology, Harris was a three-time All-Big West Conference honoree for the Highlanders at the NCAA Division I level. The two-time UCR Most Valuable Player award recipient scored over 1,000 career points at the collegiate level and is among the school's all-time leaders in more than 16 statistical categories. Harris started 26 of 28 games her final season (2003-04) and finished second among UCR's leading scorers by averaging 15.2 points per contest. She shot 43-percent from the floor and tallied five rebounds a game as a senior. Harris averaged 10 points or more in each of her final three seasons of collegiate action and twice served as team captain.
She became a student coach in 2004-05 at UCR.
A local product, Harris was a standout at Rancho Buena Vista High School. The four-year letterwinner was a three-time All-Palomar League recipient and two-time all-county selection.
