SAN DIEGO - Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference medalist Vanessa Chap has been named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for the month of April, it was announced Wednesday.

Chap, who has also recently been honored as A.I.I. Female Athlete of the Week and CSUSM Female Student-Athlete of the Month, became CSUSM's first-ever individual conference champion after her final-round 70 helped her win by a single stroke. Her total of 143 (-1) is the lowest 36-hole total in the program's history.

Chap and the Cougars will compete in the NAIA National Championship next week, May 12-15, at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.

Also honored by the SDHOC was James Dykstra, the ace for the CSUSM baseball team in 2012 and 2013. Dykstra pitched his first career no-hitter for the Winston-Salem Dash in High Single-A minors.

The San Diego Hall of Champions honors outstanding athletes from San Diego, as well as athletes who have achieved stardom for local teams.
