WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Former Cal State San Marcos baseball standout James Dykstra tossed his first career no-hitter while playing for the Winston-Salem Dash, the High-Single A minor-league ball club for the Chicago White Sox. Dykstra's seven-inning gem led to a 1-0 win in Wednesday's doubleheader opener against the Potomac Nationals.

Dykstra, a two-time All-Association of Independent Institutions first team selection who holds the lowest career ERA (2.46) in CSUSM history, did not allow a ball to reach the outfield in his 71-pitch outing. He allowed just one man to reach thanks to a walk to begin the fourth. However, Dykstra picked off the runner before he threw his next pitch.

Dykstra (2-0) recorded the other 20 outs via 14 groundouts, three strikeouts, two popouts and a lineout. In his two starts thus far this season, Dykstra has surrendered just one hit over 13 innings.

His no-hitter was only in jeopardy twice. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, third baseman Trey Michalczewski was able to snare a line drive with a snow-cone catch.

Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Dykstra fielded a dribbler in front of the mound but then threw wide towards first. However, the runner was called out for running out of the baseline. Dykstra completed the history-making outing by inducing a groundout.

Dykstra became the third CSUSM player drafted in program history in 2013 when the White Sox selected him the 183rd overall pick in the sixth round of the MLB Draft.

In 2013 for the Cougars, Dykstra went 9-4 with a 2.02 ERA in 13 starts and 89 innings pitched, setting single-season school records for wins, ERA, strikeouts (86) and complete games (4).

His older brother, Allan Dykstra, was called up to the show on April 8 and has appeared in five games for the Tampa Bay Rays.
