Daniel Melara joined the Cal State San Marcos Department of Athletics as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in August 2021.
Melara was previously an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the University of San Diego from 2012 to 2021 and was responsible for football, women's soccer, baseball, golf, volleyball, softball, cross country and men's rowing at different times in his tenure. In addition to his duties at USD, Melara was also an adjunct professor at San Diego City College from 2015 to 2019.
Melara served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the West Coast Conference Basketball Championships in March 2012, the NCAA Division I Women's College Cup in December 2012 and the West Coast Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships in April 2011 and 2012.
From 2010 to 2012, Melara served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at USD and was responsible for the administrative assignments, evaluation, prevention, rehabilitation and management of the healthcare needs for women's soccer, men's tennis, softball and spirit while assisting with football.
Melara served a season intern with the San Diego Chargers during the 2009 season and served as a summer camp intern with the Minnesota Vikings prior to the 2009 season.
Melara is a 2010 graduate of San Diego State and received his Master's in Kinesiology from SDSU in 2012.
