A.J. Robinson

A.J. Robinson was named the sixth head coach in program history for the Cal State San Marcos softball team on July 31, 2024.

In his first season at the helm of the program in 2025, Robinson's Cougars finished 43-23 overall with a 21-15 CCAA record to take second in the conference standings. The Cougars made their fourth consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance and NCAA Division II West Regional appearances. Eight Cougars earned All-CCAA honors with Paige Donnelly, Jayline Sloss and Madison Waymire taking home first-team honors, Jillian Albayati, Savannah Coyle and Delaney Prater garnering second-team honors while Gianna Lombardi and Dahlia Fink were named honorable mentions. 

As the program's assistant coach from 2022-24, Robinson helped guide CSUSM to three NCAA Division II West Regional appearances, an NCAA National Championship appearance, a West Regional Championship, a CCAA Regular-Season Championship and a CCAA Tournament Championship.

In 2024, Robinson assisted CSUSM to its first-ever CCAA Tournament Championship and its third consecutive NCAA West Regional championship game appearance.

In 2023, Robinson helped the Cougars to a very successful season, winning the NCAA DII West Regional and advancing to the NCAA DII National Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Cougars finished in fifth place at the National Championships and ended the season ranked No. 7 in the country in the 2023 Final NFCA Division II Coaches Poll. Robinson and former head coach Stef Ewing were named the 2023 NFCA West Region Coaching Staff of the Year in NCAA DII. This was the third NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honor for Robinson.

In 2022, Robinson assisted Coach Ewing in leading the program to its first CCAA Championship and a NCAA Division II era program record 45 wins. The team received the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West Regional and finished one win away from punching their ticket to the NCAA National Championship Series. The team had two NFCA All American players and led the conference in many statistical categories including wins, batting average, runs scored and RBI. The team finished the year ranked No. 11 in the final NFCA Division II Coaches Poll.

For the 2021 season, Robinson was a volunteer assistant coach at San Diego State and helped the Aztecs to an overall record of 28-16.

Robinson served as a volunteer coach for CSUSM from 2018-2020 and was named CSUSM Volunteer Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020. He helped the squad earn their highest-ever team grade point average in 2020.

Robinson was the founder and president of The Factory Softball Club based in San Diego. In 2018 and 2019, he and his coaching staff earned West Region Travel Ball Coaching Staff of the Year honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
