Cal State San Marcos head men's soccer coach Ron Pulvers announced the addition of Sean Gurley as volunteer assistant coach in 2015.

Gurley, a Carlsbad High School graduate and former collegiate standout at Cal Poly Pomona and Notre Dame de Namur, has coached with Carlsbad United for the last four years. He also has also served as the varsity boys' assistant coach at La Costa Canyon High School in Encinitas for the last two seasons.

Gurley's collegiate career started at Norte Dame de Namur, where he appeared in 20 games as a freshman for an Argo squad that made an appearance in the 2008 NCAA Division II tournament.

He played his final three seasons at Cal Poly Pomona (2009-12), where he appeared in 52 matches and started in 16. As a junior, he tied the program's single-match record for assists in one game with three in a 7-0 rout of Cal State East Bay. The Broncos went 29-22-4 during his time at CPP.

As a youth player, Gurley played for Carlsbad Lighting and RSF Attack. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 2008. As a senior, he was named CHS' Best Offensive Player and earned all-league first team honors.
