Former Dallas Burn and Aston Villa goalkeeper Johann Noetzel has accepted the position of volunteer goalkeepers' coach for Cal State San Marcos soccer.
Born and raised in Seattle, Johann, the son of a soccer-playing German immigrant father, joined his first soccer team at the age of 4. He began developing his quick reflexes, great hands, and booming drop kicks, skills that brought him much success through his youth career and eventually earned him a scholarship to five-time National Champion Seattle Pacific University. Johann excelled there, earning Pacific Coast Conference Player of the Year and NCAA All-American honors while leading his team to the NCAA Final Four.
"We are very excited to have Johann join our staff and train our goalkeepers," commented CSUSM Head Coach Ron Pulvers. "Obviously, Johann has extensive playing experiences, both collegiately and professionally which will have a great influence on our goalkeepers. Most valuable to our program, however, is Johann’s coaching experiences, his ability to connect with the modern goalkeeper, and his selfless drive to help young goalies. Our keepers will benefit greatly from Johann’s expert instruction.”
Johann was a first-round pick of Major League Soccer's Dallas Burn in 2000, and moved on to play for Aston Villa in the EPL before suffering a career-ending injury.
Johann graduated with his B.A. from Seattle Pacific University in 1999. He is the owner/founder of Shot Stoppers Goalkeeping Academy.
