Kevin Williamson

Kevin Williamson was named to the CSUSM men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach in June of 2018.
 
Prior to a brief stint at Grays Harbor College this past season, Williamson served as the Dixie State assistant coach under Jon Judkins for two season. While at Dixie State, the Trailblazers had a combined record of 37-18 overall and 31-11 in the ultra-competitive PacWest conference. Williamson also helped the Trailblazers reach the NCAA division II National Tournament in the 2017 West Regional.

Williamson was instrumental in the player development of Trevor Hill (2017 NABC 2nd team West Region & 1st Team PacWest) and Mark Ogden, Jr. (2016 NABC 1st team West Region, 1st team PacWest & PacWest Defensive Player of the Year). During Williamson's short tenure with the Trailblazers, the team earned its first ever NABC Team Academic Excellence Award (3.0 GPA for entire academic year) and had five players named the NABC Honors Court.

Before DSU coach Williamson served as an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 2012-2015. While at UMD, the program saw consistent yearly improvement in wins by 4 wins a each season (8-2013, 12- 2014, 16-2015) and in the 2014-15 season the team recorded its first winning record since 2008, and hosted its first NSIC conference tournament game since 2006. In 2015 the UMD basketball team earned an NABC Academic Team Excellence Award and had one player on the NABC Honors Court.

Williamson spent 2010-2015 seasons as an assistant coach to former Minnesota-Duluth head coach Matt Bowen, including two seasons at Bemidji State. During his tenure on Bowen's staff, Williamson helped recruit and produce nine All-NSIC selections, as well one Central Region Player of the Year, NSIC Player of the Year and a 2012 NCAA II National Player of the Year

Prior to his arrival at Bemidji State, Williamson served as an assistant coach at Glendale Community College (Ariz.), where he coached, developed and helped to recruit-out James Ellisor to Bemidji State University where they would soon be paired up again as player and coach.

Williamson was a physical education teacher and head varsity boys’ basketball coach at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif., The Dons went 17-14 overall and lost in the CIF-San Diego championship game. The Dons also earned a berth in the CIF division III state tournament where he coached against Anthony Brown (Ocean View HS, Stanford, NBA-Lakers). Williamson also coached against Norman Powell (Lincoln HS, UCLA, NBA-Raptors) while at CCHS in the Western League. 

Williamson also coached at Kofa High School in Yuma, Ariz., from 2007-08. Under his watch, the Kings set a school single-season record for wins, going 21-11 on the year. The King's also captured the Gila Valley Region championship and gained a Arizona 5A II State Tournament semifinal round berth -- the first and only appearance ever by any Yuma public boys basketball high school team. For his efforts, Williamson was chosen the Gila Valley Region Coach of the Year.

A native of San Diego, Williamson was a two-sport athlete (basketball and golf) at the University of Great Falls (MT), where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education; Health and Physical Education in 2007.Williamson was a NAIA Academic All-American in both sports in 2007. Williamson also completed a Master's degree in Sports Studies at Bemidji State in 2012. Williamson was also a part of the Arizona State University, Sun Devils basketball program in 2004-05 for head coach Rob Evans before transferring to UGF.

Coaching runs deep in the Williamson family as his father Craig was the head boys’ basketball coach at Sedona High School (Ariz.), and his brother, Kyle, is currently the head girls’ basketball coach at Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego.
