The Sports Center & Athletic Fields Policies

Gymnasium Policies
  • The Sports Center is/can be used for athletic events, banquets, small concerts, student programs, trade shows and other forms of recreation and entertainment. Priority will be given to CSUSM Department of Athletics for athletic events
  • The Sports Center's daily operating hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during non-event days.
  • Department of Athletics events take priority over any other event requests. All other event requests will be reviewed by the Director of The Sports Center and considered based on availability.
  • The Sports Center strictly enforces a NO GUM policy anywhere inside the facility.
  • Hard-sole shoes are not permitted on the main Sports Center floor during home contests and daily activities.
  • Hard-sole shoes will be permitted only during special events where protective floor covering is applied to the wood floor.
  • The wearing of cleats is strictly prohibited ANYWHERE in The Sports Center at any time.
  • The main Sports Center floor is for use by the intercollegiate basketball and volleyball teams and approved intramural teams and recreation activities.
  • During home contests, no outside basketballs or volleyballs will be permitted inside the facility.

Locker Rooms
  • Men's and Women's Locker Rooms are available to CSUSM student-athletes only with proper identification.
  • The Sports Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items within the facility.
  • The wearing of cleats is strictly prohibited ANYWHERE in The Sports Center at any time.

Seating for Individuals with Special Needs
The Sports Center is ADA compliant and proud to provide accessibility to Southern California's diverse population.
Guests requiring special accommodations such as ADA access and seating, mobility impairments, hearing impairments, etc. should contact the Director of the Sports Center at 760-750-7102 to arrange for the purchase of tickets to CSUSM athletic sporting events. Wheelchair and semi-ambulatory seating will be reserved for guests with disabilities (and their companions) up to 48 hours prior to a sporting event.


Alcohol/Drugs
Bringing illegal drugs into the Sports Center at any time is prohibited. Alcoholic beverages in Sports Center are prohibited except when served at an event for which the host has a university approved permit. Intoxicated patrons are not to be admitted into the arena at any time. Intoxicated patrons are subject to ejection from the event and possible arrest by UPD if deemed necessary.

Outside Food/Drink
Bringing food or drink into The Sports Center is permitted during athletic sporting events.

Pet/Animal Policy
Pets and/or animals are not permitted inside of The Sports Center during home events, practices or open recreation time. Only service animals are permitted at CSUSM home competitions, practices and/or open recreation time.


Cameras/Videotaping/Audio Taping
The use of recording devices such as video cameras and cameras is prohibited during CSUSM athletic sporting events. The Director of the Sports Center must approve any exceptions. Cameras with professional lenses and attachments are prohibited in The Sports Center without proper credentials. Credential requests for all home CSUSM Athletic Contests shall be made through the Sports Information Department at 760-750-7114. Credential requests can be made no later than 24 hours before the event start time.

Weapons
Per section(s) 626.9 and 626.10 of the California Penal Code, weapons are prohibited on the property of California State University San Marcos. Persons violating these sections are subject to arrest.

Confiscated Goods
Confiscated goods, or discarded non-garbage items, must be given to the management of the Sports Center. Under no circumstances, may confiscated goods be kept by The Sports Center staff. A lost and found container will be kept in the Sports Center and items will be turned into University Police at the end of each month.

Disorderly Conduct
Patrons who fail to abide by Sports Center policies; as well as state and federal law are subject to rejection from the facility. Patrons who are violating Sports Center policy will be asked to correct their behavior and if they fail to do so in a timely fashion, ejection will occur. Individuals who have been ejected will be asked to vacate Sports Center property or be subject to arrest on trespassing charges. Patrons who endanger the safety of others will be subject to ejection.

Ejection of Guests
A determination for ejection must be made by the event Site Supervisor, Administrator on Duty, CSUSM UPD, or the Director of the Sports Center. Game management Site Supervisor and/or CSUSM UPD will eject any unruly or policy violating guests. If campus police are not present, the Director of the Sports Center and/or the event Site Supervisor may hold violating guest until UPD arrives on site. UPD Officers will identify the ejected patron prior to being released. If patron is a student their name will be forwarded to the Dean of Students through a UPD written report. If the ejected patron is a staff or faculty member their name will be forwarded to the appropriate campus entity.

Floor Rush/Stage Rush
Rushing the stage or rushing the arena floor is prohibited for safety reasons. Our primary concern is for the safety of all; consequently, performers are warned against inviting floor rushes and will be fined if they invite a floor rush. Patrons rushing the floor are subject to ejection from the venue, additional campus sanctions and possible criminal prosecution.

 

Field Policies
  • At CSUSM, The Multi-Purpose Field, Baseball and Softball fields are the campus' home to our intercollegiate athletic teams for practice and home NCAA Division II contests.
  • Intercollegiate athletic fields are available for CSUSM Soccer, Baseball and Softball teams and student-athletes.
  • Department of Athletics events take priority over any other event requests on Intercollegiate Athletic fields.
  • All rentals and event requests will be at the discretion of the Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations based on availability.
  • During home games, foldable chairs are only permitted on the dirt pathway next to the field's bleachers.

Locker Rooms
  • Men's and Women's Locker Rooms are available in The Sports Center to CSUSM to home and visiting student-athletes with proper identification.
  • The Sports Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items within the facility.
  • The wearing of cleats is strictly prohibited ANYWHERE in The Sports Center at any time.

Pets are permitted outside of baseball and softball games but must adhere to the “Pet Area” location that is located away from the general seating areas at each field. Only service animals are permitted at CSUSM home competitions, practices and/or open recreation time.


Weapons

Umbrella/Tent Policy

The Department of Athletics determines acceptable use of tents, pop-up tents, canopies and umbrellas during home athletic competitions. The department will take proper safety precautions in order to promote a positive experience for student-athletes, coaches and spectators. The department will prioritize and utilize space as needed at all home outdoor competitions to include baseball, men's and women's soccer, softball and track & field. The use of tents, pop-up tents, canopies and umbrellas are as follows:
  • For Baseball and Softball - Space is limited for pop-up tents and canopies. Spectators who bring their own tents or canopies are required to secure them with weights. If weights are not available then tents cannot be used in order to protect fan safety. Umbrellas are permitted during baseball games as long as they do not impede the view of other spectators. Umbrellas are permitted during softball games as long as they are used at the ends of the bleachers. Umbrellas cannot be used in the middle section of the bleachers since they obstruct the camera being used to live stream our home games.
  • For Men's and Women's Soccer - Umbrellas are permitted in the bleachers and behind the line indicated on the field. Pop-up tents and canopies are not permitted during any soccer match.
  • For Track & Field - Since there is amble space around the track, tents, pop-up tents, canopies and umbrellas are permitted. However, they must be secured in order to prevent the wind from blowing them on the track or field during competition.


Operation Policies

Cancellation of Activities and Relocation of Events
Though Department of Athletics events take priority in The Sports Center and athletic fields, The Associate Director of Athletics and Director of the Sports Center has the authority, with consultation with the University Administration, to cancel or relocate athletic practices, club or recreational activities, in order to maximize the use of the facilities for rental. When possible, teams or departments affected by the scheduling change should be notified at least two weeks in advance. Such notifications will be made in writing.

Rental
The Sports Center and athletic fields are rented with the approval of the Director. The Sports Center may be rented on a limited basis with approval of the Director of the Sports Center. Events requests on athletic fields will be limited and will be at the discretion of the Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations. The Department of Athletics has priority over all requests athletic facilities.

Ticket Office
The Athletics Operations Coordinator in the Department of Athletics is responsible for all tickets sales for the Sports Center. The Athletic Operations Coordinator is responsible for inputting the different events on the Department of Athletics' ticket printer, handling any special ticket order needed and maintaining a manifest of all tickets that are sold or used as complimentary.

Tickets for most revenue-producing events at the Sports Center are sold through the Box Office. For some events, there will be a service charge applied to each ticket. Contact the Athletic Operations Coordinator with questions at (760) 750-7113.

The ticket office will open two hours prior to most events. The times will vary from event to event.

Most CSUSM athletic sporting events feature reserved and general admission seating. Any exception requires the approval of the Director of the Sports Center prior to the scheduled event.

For paid events, at ticket is required for each patron. Children under four years of age are not required to have a ticket provided the child will be sitting on a parent's lap and not taking up an additional seat. The Director of the Sports Center must approve any deviation from standard Ticket Office procedures.

Tickets are currently sold at CSUSM men's and women's soccer games at the Multi-Purpose Field. The ticket booth will open two hours before kickoff. Tickets for CSUSM students with valid student identification will be free of charge.

Smoking & Tobacco Policy
In compliance with university rules and guidelines, smoking is prohibited anywhere in the Sports Center and/or our athletic fields within 20 feet from the facility. In accordance with CSUSM Smoking Policy, smoking is prohibited anywhere on campus except in designated smoking areas. Please refer to the current map identifying designated smoking area locations on campus. Re-Entry
The Sports Center reserves the right to not allow re-entry during paid events. The Director of the Sports Center must approve any exception. Signs will be posted at each entrance informing guests of this policy. Re-entry will be permitted at home soccer events at the Multi-Purpose Field for fans to use the portable restrooms and visit the concession stand. Upon re-entry, fans must show a valid ticket stub for the game going on that day.

Parking
CSUSM parking is enforced 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. Parking for all Sports Center events is located in the Parking Structure 1 located to the south east of the Sports Center. The Sports Center parking lot may be restricted during University working hours (or the entire parking lot after hours) for special event permits. Disabled Parking for The Sports Center is located in lot L in front of the main entrance of the Sports Center and is on a first come, first served basis.

All faculty, staff, students, and visitors who park their vehicles on campus during Parking Services' hours of enforcement are required to properly have a valid parking permit or pay the appropriate parking fee for the time period in which they park on campus. CSUSM pay stations are located in Lot B, Lot C, Lot F Drive up, Lot F Walk up and Lot N. No physical permit will be dispensed. Your license plate number is entered when purchasing your parking session. The license plate number entered will be your Virtual Permit. No coin accepted, no change given, no refunds. Additionally, vehicles are to be parked only in lots which are designated by their permit or fee payment. Any person who fails to comply with this policy may be issued a parking citation.

Parking for soccer, baseball and softball games will be complimentary in Lot Z for fans. Lot Z is located next to the Multi-Purpose Field. Disabled Parking for CSUSM Soccer, Baseball, Softball and Mangrum Track and Field is located right outside of Mangrum Track and Field along the northwest side of the venue. Access to the Baseball, Softball and Soccer fields are available from a paved pathway designed for wheelchairs and scooters.

Posting of Materials & Banners
All posting of banners in or around the Sports Center and athletic fields Facility must be approved by the Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and operations and The Director of the Sports Center prior to the event.

 

Emergency Policies

The Sports Center and athletic fields have detailed response procedures in the event of a fire, bomb threat or a natural disaster. These procedures, are in conjunction with the University's natural disaster plan, are on file at the Sports Center check-in desk and Ticket Office as well as at press box areas at athletic fields. Rental Information

At the CSUSM Sports Center, flexibility is the key to hosting a successful event. With the use of retractable seating, protective floor covering and dimmable lighting nearly any event is possible. An intimate meeting, a trade show or even a concert with 2,200 guests, every event receives the highest quality of professional service. First class amenities include dressing rooms, production office space and our ticket office. One Centralized Main Entrance to the arena provides easy access for patrons to enjoy all that the Sports Center has to offer. The Sports Center is ideally suited for sports events, tradeshows, and concerts.

California State University San Marcos and The Sports Center shall not be held responsible for any damage, loss or theft of products or materials of the Lessee or any exhibitor who has sublet space from the Sports Center while these products or materials are on University premises, including the Sports Center.

In accordance with CSUSM's Event Polices, all external clients will need to submit an Event Request Form through the Events and Conference Services Department (ECS). Internal Clients will submit an event request through 25Live. Once submitted, the Director of the Sports Center will approve or deny any request. All parties interested in hosting an event in The Sports Center will be subject to campus event policies including providing Proof of Liability Insurance.

Any Lessee utilizing the Sports Center must agree to comply with all appropriate state and federal laws, University rules, regulations and guidelines and fire and police department rules and regulations. In addition, the Lessee shall agree to use and occupy the premises for no purpose, which is considered indecent under the law.

All food and beverage service, concessions and catering in The Sports Center for special events are subject to University Event Policies. All food and beverage arrangements are the responsibility solely of California State University San Marcos. Lessees are not permitted to control the sales and distribution of food, beverages or other concession items. Consumption and the sale of alcoholic beverages within The Sports Center is strictly prohibited in accordance with the Campus Alcohol Policy: http://www.csusm.edu/policies/active/documents/alcoholic_beverage_use_campus.html

The sale of products or services on the grounds of The Sports Center in conjunction with an exposition, trade show or special event is prohibited without prior written approval of the Director of the Sports Center.

Space rental and event related fees are based on the Client's user category, amount of space required, the length of time it is reserved and additional services requested or needed. Your ECS Event Planner will provide more details regarding your specific event prior to signing rental agreement.

Requests for athletic field rentals are limited based on practice and game schedules. All requests will be approved or denied by the Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations.

The Sports Center Hospitality Courtyard

Gymnasium
A great setting for a large event, the gymnasium includes over 24,000 sq. ft. of floor space, which can be used for concerts, tradeshows and speaking engagements. Includes a state-of-the-art in house sound system and video and message boards.

House Sound System
The House sound system is designed for use in sporting events and small staged programs.

Reservations
All requests must be made a minimum of 3 weeks in advance of the event date.
External Clients: To request a reservation, complete an event request form online or email ECS. Reservation status updates and further event planning information will be emailed to the Client within two (2) business days.

Recognized Student Organizations, ASI and Campus Groups: To request a reservation, visit the online 25Live portal.

Deposit
  • Within 10 business days of receiving Event Estimate: 25% Due
  • 10 Business Days prior to event: 50% due
  • Upon receipt of final invoice: Balance Due
  • Late fees after 30 days
Catering
CSUSM requires that only approved campus vendors be used for food, beverage and alcohol service. Your ECS Event Planner will assist you in choosing the right options for you. Please refer to the UARSC current list of approved vendors.

Decorating
All décor must be constructed of non-flammable materials. To ensure safety and guard against property damage, and/or personal injury, decorations may not obstruct entrances and exits and must allow for emergency egress at all times. Decorations cannot cover emergency signs, fire lanes or exits, or be posted in elevators or stairwells.
Posters and signs may not be placed on CSUSM facilities or campus grounds without prior permission from ECS. Painters tape is the only accepted fastening material. Scotch tape, nails, pushpins or potentially damaging fasteners (staple guns) may not be used to hang signs or other materials. Confetti, glitter, rice, and shredded tinsel are not permitted. Use of these materials will result in cost recovery for excessive cleaning.
The Sports Center and Field Management and Event and Conference Services (ECS) must approve all decorating in advance. No decorations, posters, or other items shall be attached to the Sports Center walls.

Room Arrangements
Room arrangements and setups of tables and chairs must be planned and approved in advance by the Sports Center Management in conjunction with Event and Conference Services (ECS). ECS will manage all event setups and additional equipment rental and staffing costs could apply.

Damages/Theft
CSUSM will not be responsible for any damages or loss of articles left in the Sports Center and/or athletic fields prior to, during or after your event. ECS reserves the right to ensure CSUSM facilities and/ or equipment are used and maintained properly. Accidental damages to CSUSM facilities and/ or equipment will be handled on an individual case basis. For intentional damages to CSUSM facilities and/ or equipment, individuals responsible for such damages will be responsible for all replacement costs including materials and labor associated with returning an item back to its original state.

Insurance
