Compliance for Alumni, Fans, Parents and Donors (Boosters)

This is intended to highlight some of pertinent rules for you as a supporter of CSUSM Athletics.

In general, you are considered a representative of athletics interests (or a booster) if any of the following apply:
  1. Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization, including corporate entities (e.g. apparel and equipment companies), promoting the CSUSM athletic program.
  2. Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization.
  3. Be assisting or to have been requested (by the athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  4. Have been involved otherwise in promoting the CSUSM athletic program.
*** Once you have become a "booster or supporter" you will always be considered and held to CSUSM's standards.

We encourage all of our Boosters and supporters to "Ask Before You Act." Therefore, if you have any questions about acting as a booster or engagement with a current/prospective student, please contact the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance, Jason Stock at jstock@csusm.edu or call 760-750-7101. Or, contact Assistant Director of Athletics, ACES David Nathanson at dnathanson@csusm.edu or call 760-750-7107.

Extra Benefits
The NCAA defines an extra benefit as any special arrangement by an institutional employee or representative of the institution's athletics interests to provide a student-athlete or the student athlete's relative or friend a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation. Receipt of a benefit by student-athletes or their relatives or friends is not a violation of NCAA legislation, if it's a demonstrated that the same benefit is generally available to the institution's student or their relatives or friends or to particular segment of the student body determined on a basis unrelated to athletics ability.
