CSUSM Emergency Action Plan


Home Games and/or Practices (On Campus)


1)  If the Athletic Trainer is not present at the practice or game the head coach will be responsible for providing initial care for injured athletes.

2) Notify the Athletic Trainer: Office (760) 750-7111. While the athletic trainer is being summoned or if the athletic trainer is not on campus move to step 3

3) Call University Police at (760) 750-4567 or from the nearest emergency call station and follow these steps:
  • Identify yourself
  • Give them the location of the emergency (Baseball Field, Mangrum Track and Soccer Field,Discus ring, etc...)
  • Nature of emergency
  • Number of athletes involved, condition of athletes
  • First aid treatment initiated by first responder
  • Directions to the location
  • Do not hang up until the dispatcher tells you to.

4) While the ambulance is being summoned make sure that the emergency access route is cleared from equipment, carts, cars, people, etc.. (if possible have
someone meet the Responding unit(s) and guide them to the incident area

In the event of a Cardiopulminary Emergency obtain the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) from the Athletic Training cart or send someone to the Clarke Fieldhouse front desk to retrieve the unit located in the first cubicle.
  • Verify that the patient is in cardiac arrest (unconscious, no respiration, no pulse)
  • Press ON/OFF to turn on the AED (the green light will light). The connect electrodes message and voice prompt will occur until the patient is connected to the AED.
  • Prepare the patient for electrode placement.
  • Follow the screen messages and voice prompts provided by the AED


Emergency Access Route for each sports venue:
  • Hunter Gymnasium: Ambulance will enter parking lot from Campus Way
  • Multipurpose Field and CSUSM Baseball Field: Ambulance will enter from 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road pass through the gate Multipurpose Field and or Baseball Field is directly to the right.
  • Mangrum Track and Soccer Field: Ambulance will enter from 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road pass through the gate head east to Track, Soccer Field and or Softball field
