No. 1 Seed – California State University-San Marcos (27-20)
 
The host team has won eight and lost nine since sweeping two doubleheaders from Arizona Christian, March 23-24, and split two doubleheaders with ACU during the last weekend of the regular season.  CSU-San Marcos takes on number six seed Dakota State (S.D.), at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 2.  ACU is 3-12 against CSU-San Marcos in two years of baseball competition.
 
Coached by Dennis Pugh (sixth season), CSU-San Marcos is batting .305 as a team with 47 home runs and 95 doubles and ranks second in the NAIA with 25 triples and averages seven runs per game.  Seven regulars are hitting .325 or better.  The Cougars’ pitching staff allowed 409 hits in 391-2/3 innings with 347 strikeouts and 157 walks and posted a 5.01 team earned-run average.
 
Shortstop-rightfielder Jeremy Baum leads the CSUSM regulars with a .348 average with six triples and three home runs and 22 RBI.  Third baseman Austin Coleman leads the team with 61 hits, 18 doubles, 13 home runs and 48 RBI and a .678 slugging percentage and is batting .345, and leftfielder Anthony Renteria leads the team with 46 runs scored and is batting .335 with 58 hits, 9 doubles, 3 triples, 12 home runs and 44 RBI.  First baseman Kenny Belzer is hitting .325 with 53 hits, 14 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 45 RBI, and versatile Trent Jemmett, who plays second base, shortstop and in the outfield, leads the team with 14 stolen bases in 18 attempts and has 60 hits, 14 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 32 RBI.
 
On the mound, righthander James Dykstra is 7-2 in 13 starts with three complete games and a 2.70 ERA, and has recorded 72 strikeouts and just 29 walks in 83-1/3 innings.  Arizona Christian beat Dykstra, 5-1, in his most recent start on April 27.  Righthander Darren Gay is 3-4 in 10 starts with 41 strikeouts and just eight walks in 56-2/3 innings and has a 4.61 ERA.  He also has made four relief appearances and has one save.  Righthander Frank Charlton is 4-3 with a 5.03 ERA, 54 strikeouts and 24 walks in 53-2/3 innings, and the Cougars’ closer Andrew Larson has seven saves and a 4.28 ERA in 33-2/3 innings during 20 appearances and has struck out 41 and walked just seven batters.
 
 
No. 2 Seed – Jamestown College, Jamestown, North Dakota (31-14-1)
 
Jamestown has won 20 of its last 25 games, including 10 consecutive games in one stretch.  The Jimmies take on number five Arizona Christian in the 9 a.m. first-round conference tournament game, Wednesday, May 2.  ACU and Jamestown have never met in baseball. Jamestown has won 30 or more games in nine of the last 10 seasons.
 
Coached by Tom Hager (13th season), Jamestown is batting .300 as a team with 32 home runs and 87 doubles and averages nearly seven runs per game.  Seven regulars are hitting .314 or better, and the team has stolen 102 bases in 119 attempts.  The Jimmies’ pitching staff allowed 350 hits in 341-1/3 innings with 306 strikeouts and 159 walks and posted a 4.38 team earned-run average.
 
Freshman outfielder Matt Achter leads Jamestown’s regulars with a healthy .424 average with six doubles, one home run and 13 RBI, and has stolen 16 bases in 20 attempts.  First baseman Mitch Stevens is batting .354 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI, and centerfielder Max Boe is batting .342 with nine doubles, four home runs and 34 RBI and co-leads the team with 18 stolen bases in 23 tries.  Leftfielder Kyle Mallory is hitting .317 and co-leads the team with 36 RBI, and has 10 doubles, and first baseman Derek Wallace also has 36 RBI and has hit five home runs and is batting .315.  Second baseman Spencer Flaten leads Jamestown with eight home runs and has 31 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 20 attempts, and third baseman Nico Moreno is batting .314 and has 11 doubles, seven home runs and 31 RBI and leads the team with 38 runs scored.  Catcher Joe Perez is batting .282 with 11 doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI.
 
On the mound, righthander Adam Ranger is 5-0 in eight starts with two complete games and a 3.09 ERA, and has recorded 36 strikeouts and just 12 walks in 43-2/3 innings.  Lefthander Blake Stewart is 5-2 with a 3.98 ERA in 13 appearances and two starts with 36 strikeouts and 14 walks in 31-2/3 innings.  Righthander Wesley Hardy is 5-1 with a 5.31 ERA, 36 strikeouts and 23 walks in 40-2/3 innings, and the Jimmies’ closer Nick Smart has five saves and a 5.52 ERA in 31 innings in 14 appearances and has struck out 37 and walked 16 batters.  Righthander Ben Watkins is 3-1 in six starts and has 18 strikeouts and 16 walks in 31-1/3 innings with a 3.45 ERA.
 
 
No. 3 Seed – Mayville State University, Mayville, North Dakota (32-17)
 
Mayville State has won 12 of its last 15 games, including six consecutive games in one stretch.  The Comets take on number four seed Thomas University (Ga.) in the 4 p.m. first-round conference tournament game, Wednesday, May 2.  Earlier this season, Arizona Christian came from behind to defeat Mayville State, 9-8, March 12, but lost twice to the Comets, 3-1 and 6-4, March 15, in Phoenix.
 
Mayville State has won 21 conference championships, including 17 consecutive in one stretch, and 18 conference playoff championships, and has made 21 appearances in the NAIA National Tournament, including 19 of the last 21.  Coach Scott Berry (30th season) is an 11-time NAIA District 12 or Region III Coach of the Year and has won Conference Coach of the Year honors 19 times.  Berry is the 10th winningest coach in NAIA baseball with over 850 wins.
 
Mayville State is batting .300 as a team with 23 home runs and 88 doubles and averages just over six runs per game.  Seven regulars are hitting .317 or better, and the team has stolen 82 bases in 102 attempts.  The Comets’ pitching staff allowed 349 hits in 362 innings with 335 strikeouts and 149 walks and posted a 3.98 team earned-run average.
 
Junior rightfielder Kurtis McCallum leads Mayville State with a .385 average with 10 doubles, a team-best six home runs and 28 RBI and has been hit by pitches 16 times.  Senior third baseman Ricky Alvernaz is batting .370 with 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs and a team-high 37 RBI, and junior first baseman Dillon Lundin is batting .368 with 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 21 RBI.  Junior shortstop Phillip Steer is hitting .341 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 20 RBI, and leads MSU with 20 stolen bases in 23 attempts.  Freshman second baseman Spencer Mallonee is batting .338 with six doubles and 11 RBI, and senior centerfielder Brad Ferraro is batting .320 with 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs, nine stolen bases, and 29 RBI.  Freshman catcher Zachary Mihic is batting .317 with 18 RBI.
 
On the mound, junior righthander Victor Sokolofsky is 6-0 in 13 appearances and seven starts and has compiled a 3.38 ERA with 48 strikeouts and 22 walks in 56 innings.  Senior righthander Nick Anderson is 4-2 with a 2.44 ERA and 60 strikeouts and just four walks in 48 innings, and sophomore righthander Robert Page is 4-0 with a 3.52 ERA and 17 strikeouts and seven walks in 23 innings. Junior righthander Joe Ferreira is 5-1 with a 3.61 ERA, 39 strikeouts and 26 walks in 42-1/3 innings, and senior righthander Sam Hirchert is 2-4 with a 3.10 ERA, 38 strikeouts and 10 walks in 49-1/3 innings.  Junior righthander Duell Higbe has four saves and a 1.04 ERA with five strikeouts and just one walk in 8-2/3 innings in seven appearances, and junior righthander Russell Kennedy has a 3-3 record and two saves in 16 relief appearances and has struck out 20 and walked eight in 24 innings.
 
 
No. 4 Seed – Thomas University, Thomasville, Ga. (24-21)
 
Thomas University closed the season with six wins in its last eight games.  The Night Hawks take on number three seed Mayville State University (N.D.) in the 4 p.m. first-round conference tournament game, Wednesday, May 2.
 
Coach Mike Lee (16th season) enters this season’s A.I.I. Conference Championships with 371 career wins and 361 losses.  Lee’s Thomas University teams have played in the 1999 and 20007 regional tournaments and have appeared in three consecutive A.I.I. Championships.  He also coached at Valdosta State, leading his 1995 team to the NCAA Division II World Series.
 
Thomas is batting .300 as a team with 16 home runs and 68 doubles and averages just over five runs per game.  Six regulars are hitting .293 or better.  The Night Hawks’ pitching staff has allowed 391 hits in 336-1/3 innings with 262 strikeouts and 146 walks and posted a 4.68 team earned-run average.
 
Senior centerfielder Joey Kampfer leads Thomas with a .434 average, 50 runs scored, six triples, and 22 stolen bases in 29 attempts and has 10 doubles, one home run and 12 RBI.  Senior rightfielder Chris Cravotta is batting .380 with 30 runs scored and leads Thomas with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 37 RBI, and junior first baseman Jesse Piccolo is batting .326 with three doubles, two home runs and 23 RBI.  Sophomore second baseman Hugh Russell Lee is hitting .301 with seven doubles and 18 RBI, and junior third baseman Chris Weaver is batting .293 with six doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI.  Senior shortstop Alex Williams also is batting .293 with five doubles, nine stolen bases, and 22 RBI.  Senior catcher Sergio Delgado is batting .261 with three doubles, one home run, and 24 RBI.
 
On the mound for the Night Hawks, senior lefthander Jacob Davis is 7-2 in 13 starts with a 3.80 ERA with 61 strikeouts and 25 walks in 73-1/3 innings.  Sophomore righthander Ben Overman is 5-3 with one save, a 3.62 ERA and 41 strikeouts and 22 walks in 49-2/3 innings, and senior righthander Kurtis Mancauskas has posted a 4-3 record with a 4.26 ERA, 37 strikeouts and 23 walks in 69-2/3 innings.  Junior righthander Trent Stoker is 4-5 with one save, a 3.56 ERA, 65 strikeouts and just 17 walks in 65-2/3 innings.
 
 
No. 5 Seed – Arizona Christian University, Phoenix, Ariz. (29-20)
 
Arizona Christian enters the A.I.I. Tournament with the third most victories (29).  ACU posted a 29-20 record in its second season of intercollegiate competition, improving from 14-34 in its inaugural season.  ACU is playing in its first A.I.I. Conference Championship.  ACU closed the season with 12 wins in its last 16 games, and after beginning the season with six consecutive losses, the Firestorm won 12 of their next 15 games.
 
ACU takes on number two seed Jamestown College (N.D.) in the 9 a.m. first-round conference tournament game, Wednesday, May 2.
 
Coach Doyle Wilson (first season) took over the helm of the ACU baseball program in August, 2011, coming over from University of Southern California after four seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Trojans.  Wilson also initiated and built the Chandler-Gilbert Community College program into a national powerhouse from 2001-07, winning nearly two-thirds of his games and sending 60 players on to four-year programs and 32 into professional baseball.
 
Arizona Christian is batting .289 as a team with 26 home runs and 76 doubles and averages just nearly seven runs per game.  Six regulars are hitting .307 or better and 10 ACU players finished the regular season with 15 RBI or more.  The Firestorm pitching staff has allowed 368 hits in 382 innings with 261 strikeouts and 161 walks and posted a 4.12 team earned-run average.
 
Junior first baseman Tyler Osborne leads ACU with a .338 average and has two doubles, two triples, two home runs and 31 RBI, and junior designated hitter Jake Storrer is hitting .331 with seven doubles, three triples, five home runs and 22 RBI and has stolen nine bases in 11 tries.  Junior outfielder Alex Glenn is batting .324 and leads the team with 42 runs scored and a school record 20 stolen bases in 21 tries.  Glenn also has nine doubles, three triples and six home runs and has 33 RBI.  Sophomore centerfielder Kendall Konopka is batting .318 with seven doubles, one triple, 16 RBI, and eight stolen bases in nine attempts, and senior shortstop Garison Hensley is hitting .309 with a team-best 12 doubles, 14 times hit by pitches and 26 RBI.  Senior catcher Zac Livingston is batting .307 with six doubles, three triples, one home run and 21 RBI.
 
Senior outfielder Mike Greco leads the team with 38 RBI and also shares the team lead with 12 doubles and batted .259 with two home run during the regular season.  Sophomore outfielder Eddie Aplin is batting .292 with five doubles, two triples, one home run, 16 stolen bases in 20 attempts and 15 RBI, and senior third baseman Travis Molina is batting .291, led the team with a school-record eight home runs and also had eight doubles and 27 RBI.
 
On the mound for the Firestorm, Junior righthander Alika Pruett is 5-4 with a 3.36 ERA and 47 strikeouts and 23 walks in 77-2/3 innings during 12 starts, and freshman lefthander Chris Freudenberg has posted a 4-5 record with a 4.25 ERA, 50 strikeouts and 30 walks in 59-1/3 innings in 12 appearances with 10 starts.  Freshman righthander Jack Sherman is 2-1 with two saves, 20 strikeouts and 15 walks in 34 innings in 17 appearances as long reliever or closer, and lanky junior righthander Lucas Hicks is 4-0 in 11 appearances with 5 strikeouts and 15 walks in 20-2/3 innings of work.  Sophomore lefthander Dylan Waugh has struck out 19 and walked just one batter in 30-1/3 innings in 14 appearances and is 2-03 with two saves.
 
 
No. 6 Seed – Dakota State University, Madison, S.D. (25-24)
 
Dakota State University finished the regular season with three consecutive victories and won 10 of its last 15 games to wind up one game over .500 (25-24).  Dakota State takes on number one seed and host, CSU-San Marcos in first-round action at the A.I.I. Championships, Wednesday, May 2, at 12:30 p.m.
 
Dakota State has developed into one of the top programs in the country and has won an average of 32 games per season over the last six seasons.  In 2003 and 2005, the Trojans won the Region III baseball title and qualified for the NAIA Super Regionals.  During those years the teams narrowly missed out on a trip to the NAIA World Series.  The Trojans have been ranked in the NAIA top 25 in six out of the last seven seasons with the highest ranking coming in 2007, when the Trojans were ranked number seven in the country.
 
Coach Scott Hortness (second season), taking over the helm of the DSU baseball program prior to the 2011 season.  For nine seasons, Hortness was the pitching coach at Campbellsville University (Ky.) and helped build the Tigers into one of the top baseball programs in the country.  The Tigers won four conference titles and six tournament championships.  In 2009, Campbellsville played in the NAIA College World Series.
 
Dakota State  is batting .275 as a team, the lowest average of any of the six A.I.I. Tournament teams, but is tied for the lead among the six-team field with 47 home runs.  Dakota State averages 5.6 runs per game and has 73 doubles.  Three regulars are hitting .314.  The Trojans’ pitching staff has allowed 396 hits in 332-1/3 innings with 217 strikeouts and 150 walks and posted a 5.98 team earned-run average, the highest among the six tournament teams.
 
Junior third baseman Roman Anyelo ranks fifth in the NAIA with 16 home runs and 25th with 53 RBI and also leads DSU with a .377 average and 13 doubles and has stolen nine bases.  Senior shortstop Jason Hershfield is hitting .282 with eight doubles and 13 home runs and has driven in 39 runs, and junior first baseman Ryan Bourcier is batting .338 with 11 doubles, seven home runs and 29 RBI.  Senior catcher Max Garza is hitting .314 with six doubles, one home run and 16 RBI, and junior second baseman Roman Rays is batting .276 with nine doubles, three triples, two home runs, 24 RBI and leads DSU with 20 stolen bases in 28 attempts.  Junior leftfielder Ryan Steffensen is hitting .273 with eight doubles, three home runs, 109 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 17 tries.  Sophomore catcher Kyle Holland is batting .248 with five doubles, 15 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts, and junior centerfielder Chaz Palmer is batting .241 with five doubles, two triples, one home run, 19 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 10 attempts.
 
On the mound for the Trojans, senior righthander Seth Doxey is 4-3 with a 2.40 ERA and 32 strikeouts and 15 walks in 60 innings in 10 starts, and Hershfield has posted a 5-4 record with a 3.32 ERA, 77 strikeouts and just 22 walks in 59-2/3 innings in 18 appearances with eight starts and seven saves as a closer.  Senior righthander Brandon Womack is 5-2 in 12 appearances with eight starts with 24 strikeouts and 15 walks in 44-2/3 innings, and Anyelo is 4-4 in eight starts with a 6.48 ERA, 20 strikeouts and 18 walks in 41-2/3 innings.
