Cougars Fall in Three Against Bemidji State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (1-3) opened its home schedule in The Cougar Classic on Thursday evening at The Sports Center, falling 3-0 (13-25, 21-25, 19-25) to undefeated Bemidji State (5-0).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Bemidji State opened the match with three consecutive points, CSUSM responded with a 4-1 run to tie the first set at 4-all. The Beavers regained control and used a 6-1 stretch to take an 18-11 advantage before scoring the final five points of the set for a 25-13 win.
  • CSUSM began the second set with six straight points, receiving four kills from Kranz during the run. The Cougars held an 8-3 lead before Bemidji State answered with seven consecutive points. CSUSM battled back and took an 18-17 advantage on a Blas-Cedeno ace, but the Beavers responded with a 5-0 run and went on to win 25-21.
  • The Cougars cut a 14-7 deficit to 14-12 with five consecutive points in the third set. Bemidji State answered with a 5-0 run of its own, but CSUSM continued to battle and fought off four match points during a late 4-0 surge that included a Keith ace. The Beavers secured the sweep with a 25-19 victory.
