A.J. Robinson, the Cal State San Marcos softball coaches were voted the 2026 ATEC/NFCA Division II West Region Coaching Staff of the Year, as selected by the region's coaches. The honor marks the second time in the last four years that CSUSM's staff was named the West's top staff.

Haylee De Jong led the Cougars through a historic 2026 campaign. The Cougars rolled through the CCAA with an amazing 28-4 record in conference play, capturing the league's second regular season title while remaining undefeated at home. CSUSMÂ broke the single-season win record with 57 victories that was set in 2012 during the NAIA era. The Cougars capped off the historic season with the best finish in program history with a trip to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II National Championship.Â
CSUSM spent the entire 2026 season ranked in the NFCA/GoRout DII Top 25 Coaches Poll, including spending all but the first week in the top 4 and ranking No. 1 for four weeks (a first in school history in the NCAA Division II era). Robinson was named CCAA Coach of the Year for the first time and finished the season with 100 wins in just two years.Â
As a team, the Cougars set multiple single-season program records during the 2026 season, including most doubles (108), most runs scored (441), most hits (2206), most walks (215), most RBIs (404), most intentional walks (6), most sacrifice flies (29) and most saves (14) in program history.
