HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM struck first in the bottom of the opening inning when Marissa Morales worked a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Zoe Karam followed with a double up the middle to bring Morales home and give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.
- Biola evened things in the top of the second inning as Mikala Huskey led off with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Ariana Banos then delivered a single to right center, allowing Huskey to score and tie the game at 1-1.
- The Eagles took the lead in the third as Leilani Salgado singled and advanced into scoring position. With two outs, a ball hit toward third base resulted in a fielding error that allowed Salgado to score, putting Biola in front 2-1 on an unearned run.
- Biola broke the game open in the fifth inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues by the Cougars. After a pair of errors put runners on base, a fielder's choice play allowed one run to score on another error. Shortly thereafter, another fielder's choice led to two additional unearned runs crossing the plate as the Eagles extended their lead to 5-1 without recording a hit in the inning.
- The Eagles added insurance in the seventh inning as Kendall Nakano drew a walk and later advanced into scoring position. Kennadie Tsue delivered a two-RBI double down the left field line, scoring two runs and pushing the margin to 7-1.
- CSUSM threatened in the middle innings, including putting two runners on in the second and sixth innings, but Biola's pitching limited the damage and prevented any further Cougar scoring.
