SAN MARCOS, Calif. –
Gavin McCormick of men's golf and
Abby Sickles of women's golf have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for April 2026.
The CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
McCormick won the CCAA Men's Golf Tournament by two strokes with a 4-under 212 (68-72-72), capturing his first collegiate victory. The junior from Thousand Oaks led CSUSM to a third-place finish at the CCAA Tournament, a strong-enough finish to qualify for the NCAA West/South Central Super Regional. McCormick was also named to the All-CCAA first team.
Sickles was crowned the CCAA Women's Golf Tournament individual medalist, winning by one stroke with a 1-under 215 (66-74-75) and becoming the sixth Cougar to achieve this feat. The Garden Grove sophomore opened the tournament with eight consecutive birdies to finish with a tournament-record 6-under 66 on day one of the CCAA Tournament. Sickles led CSUSM to its seventh consecutive CCAA Tournament win.
This is McCormick's and Sickles' first Student-Athlete of the Month honor.
