No. 7 CSUSM Concludes Season in NCAA Semifinals

PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 7 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team closed out its season with a 3-2 loss to No. 2 Dallas Baptist in the semifinals of the NCAA Division National Championships. Earlier in the day, the Cougars took down St. Mary's (TX) by score of 3.5-1.5.
 
QUARTERFINAL BREAKDOWN
  • Ellaclair Leedom led CSUSM off against St. Mary's Brielle Burns in the opening match. Leedom kept the match tight early, but Burns pulled ahead on the back nine and finished with a 2-up victory to give St. Mary's the first point.
  • Kiara Hernandez was paired with Sabree Lefebvre in the second match. Hernandez controlled much of the round, building a steady lead and closing strong down the stretch to secure a 3-up win, evening the momentum for CSUSM.
  • Avery Foster faced Sophia Perkins in the third match. Perkins jumped out to an early advantage, but Foster battled back throughout the round, ultimately finishing the match tied to earn a half-point.
  • Abby Sickles took on Taylor Wilczek in the fourth match. Sickles stayed composed in a close back-and-forth contest and used a strong back nine to claim a 2-up victory, giving CSUSM a key point.
  • Carmella Carlisi closed out the lineup against Manon Verret. Carlisi dominated early, building a sizeable lead on the front nine and never looking back en route to a decisive 6-up win.

SEMIFINAL BREAKDOWN
  • Avery Foster led CSUSM off against DBU's Sidney Robertson in the opening match. Foster stayed steady throughout the round and took control on the back nine, pulling away for an 8-up victory to give CSUSM the opening point.
  • Ellaclair Leedom was paired with Gracie Grant in the second match. Leedom battled early, but Grant built momentum throughout the round and secured a 5-up win to even the team score.
  • Kiara Hernandez faced Chloe Sirkin in the third match. Hernandez delivered a strong performance, taking control late in the round to earn a 3-up victory and give CSUSM its second point.
  • Abby Sickles took on Madison Ude in the fourth match. The matchup remained close throughout, but Ude edged ahead late to claim a 1-up victory for DBU.
  • Carmella Carlisi closed out the lineup against Ella Cheek. Carlisi kept things competitive early, but Cheek pulled away on the back nine to secure a 6-up win.

 
SEASON RECAP
  • The Cougars completed their fifth trip and fourth consecutive to the NCAA National Championships. This marked the third time CSUSM made the cut to compete for the team title with the first coming in 2019 when the Cougars finished runner-up.
  • CSUSM finished the season ranked No. 7 in the nation.
  • The Cougars graduate three seniors this year – Hannah Anderson, Avery Foster and Kiara Hernandez.
