SAN MARCOS, Calif. – For the second time in school history, the Cal State San Marcos softball team (50-8) will host the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament. The Cougars will be the No. 1 seed this week when they face No. 8-seed Hawaii Hilo (26-17) on Thursday, May 14 at 12 p.m.
Â
Joining the Cougars and Vulcans at the same site will be two familiar teams, No. 4-seed Cal State Dominguez Hills (36-22) and No. 5-seed Cal State Monterey Bay (32-22).
Â
The Cougars put together another historic regular season, bringing home the program's second CCAA Championship with a 28-4 conference record.
Â
CSUSM has been ranked No. 1 in both of the previous NCAA West Regional polls. When CSUSM held the No. 1 spot in the NFCA DII ranking for four weeks, it marked the first time a CSUSM team held the top spot in a national poll since the school completed the transition from NAIA to NCAA DII in 2017-18.
The winner of the regional pod will compete against the NCAA West Regional No. 2 winner, consisting of second-seeded Cal State East Bay (41-15), third-seeded Concordia University Irvine (43-15), sixth-seeded Biola (38-21) and seventh-seeded Western Washington (34-20) in the NCAA West Super Regional on May 21-22.
