No. 4 CSUSM Launches Five Home Runs in Doubleheader Sweep at CSUSB

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The No. 4 Cal State San Marcos softball team (45-6, 25-4 CCAA) continued its dominant run with a doubleheader sweep of Cal State San Bernardino (21-27, 10-17 CCAA) on Friday at CSUSB Softball Field, blanking the Coyotes 10-0 in five innings in game one before outlasting CSUSB 14-11 in the series nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cal State San Marcos struck immediately in the top of the first inning as Marissa Morales worked a leadoff walk before advancing into scoring position. Two batters later, Rae D'Amato singled into center field, and Czar Fleischman followed with a sharp double to right field to bring home both Morales and D'Amato for an early 2-0 Cougar advantage.
  • The Cougars added to the lead in the second inning after Angelina Rodriguez reached on an error and Jordan Elias laid down a bunt single to put two runners on. Following a groundout that moved the runners up, Jillian Albayati launched a three‑run home run to left field, extending the lead to 5-0.
  • Cal State San Marcos broke the game open in the third inning with a four‑run rally. After singles by Lauren DePlitch and Rodriguez and another base hit from Elias loaded the bases, Morales delivered a double to left that cleared the bases and made it 9-0.
  • The Cougars capped the scoring in the fifth when Morales drew a walk and later scored on Albayati's RBI double to center field. Daleah Cardenas finished the shutout by retiring the side in order to clinch the run‑rule victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM jumped out early in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. After Jillian Albayati doubled to center field, Zoe Karam brought her home with an RBI double to right. Two batters later, Olivia Rivera blasted a two‑run home run to left‑center, giving the Cougars a 3-0 lead.
  • CSUSB responded with five runs in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on timely hitting and patience at the plate to take a 5-3 advantage. The Coyotes continued to apply pressure with two more runs in the second and third innings, building a 9-5 lead midway through the game.
  • The Cougars began to chip away in the third inning when Zoe Karam homered to right field to cut the deficit to 9-6.
  • Momentum swung dramatically in the fourth as Cal State San Marcos erupted for four runs. With the bases loaded, Karam delivered the decisive blow, crushing a grand slam to center field to tie the game and swing control back to the Cougars.
  • CSUSM reclaimed the lead in the fifth by scoring three runs on a combination of aggressive base running, errors, and a two‑RBI single from Jillian Albayati to make it 12-9. After the Coyotes narrowed the gap with two unearned runs, the Cougars added insurance in the seventh, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Sarah Bull that plated Albayati.
