HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After receiving a pass down the left side and maneuvering around a defender in the box, Stefano Brunetto passed to Riley Patterson just in front of the Westmont keeper. Patterson immediately took a low shot and found the bottom left corner of the goal to give CSUSM a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.
  • From near the right corner flag, the Warriors' Alex Reyes made a high cross into the box and found the head of Leonel Olivo Ortiz, who put the ball into the left side of the goal to even the match at 1-1 with 20 seconds remaining in the half.
  • Tied after 45 minutes, CSUSM led in shots (8-7), shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (4-1).
  • In the 47th minute, Ryan Meinarus stole possession from a Warrior defender just outside the top of the box. Meinardus then dribbled to the middle of the box and took a low shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to put the Cougars back on top at 2-1.
  • Westmont again tied it at 2-2 in the 66th minute. A pass from Yordan Marinov just outside the left side of the box at the touchline found the left foot of Olivo Ortiz, who proceeded to put the ball into the left corner of the goal from 10 yards out for his second goal of the game.
