SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (2-6) fell in five sets (16-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 9-15) to visiting RV San Francisco State (6-2) in its CCAA opener on Friday night in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gators took game one 25-16 behind a .441 attack percentage and four aces.
- In the second set, both teams traded leads until at 10-all a Bakken kill sparked a 6-1 CSUSM run. The Cougars evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 win.
- CSUSM led wire-to-wire in the third set to repeat the second set's score and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
- The Gators woke up in the fourth set at 25-20 to force a fifth set.
- Â SF State went up 6-3 in the fifth set before CSUSM charged back to even the score at 6-all. The Gators answered with a 9-3 run to clinch the set at 15-9 and claim the match.

- This was CSUSM's second consecutive five-set match after the Cougars pulled off an upset in the Cougar Classic finale with a victory over previously unbeaten Western Oregon.
- Addison Kranz's five blocks, with two being solos, were a career best.
