TURLOCK, Calif. – The No. 19 Cal State San Marcos softball team (18-11) captured an 8-0 shutout over Simon Fraser (5-21) in the Cougars' Tournament of Champions finale on Sunday in Turlock.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a Ruiz 2-out, 2-RBI single to left field that plated Brooklyn Ury and Mackenzie Kestler. Â
- CSUSM doubled its lead in the third inning on a Donnelly two-run homer to left, scoring Aneesa Arredondo who reached base on a one-out infield single.
- In the fifth inning, the Cougars made it 7-0 on a 2-RBI triple to right field by Fleischman who later scored on a SFU throwing error.
- An RBI single on a 3-0 pitch by Coyle made it 8-0 CSUSM in the top of the sixth.

- CSUSM starter Savannah Coyle (6-6) tossed a one-hit, six-inning shutout with no walks while striking out three batters. Â
- SFU starter Julia Hansen took the loss after five innings in the circle, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks.
- Donnelly tallied her team-leading seventh multi-RBI game of the season.
- Coyle matched Madison Waymire for the most 3-hit games this season at four and has one less than Waymire for the most multi-hit games of 2024 with eight.
