HAYWARD, Calif. – Playing the third game of its five-game road trip, the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (10-16, 9-11 CCAA) suffered an 89-83 loss at Cal State East Bay (17-9, 13-7 CCAA) on Thursday night in Pioneer Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Up 15-12, CSUSM went on a 9-2 run to go up 24-14 on a Schultz 3-pointer at the 11:17 mark of the half.
- CSUEB battled back with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 24-all on a Tyree Campbell layup with 7:55 remaining in the period.
- The Pioneers went up 36-29 with a Teiano Hardee layup with 3:14 to go in the half.
- CSUSM then scored eight consecutive points to knot the game at 36-all with a Mike Pope 3-pointer with 1:39 left in the period.
- East Bay's Daeshawn Eaton gave the Pioneers a 40-39 lead heading into halftime as he made a layup with three seconds remaining in the half.
- The Pioneers had the hotter hand in the first half with a 51.4 (18-of-35) field-goal percentage while the Cougars shot 48.3 (14-of-29).
- CSUSM went 6-of-13 (46.2%) from beyond the arc in the first period.
- In the second half, CSUSM took a 56-50 after two good free throws by Collins with 14:10 to play.
- With the Cougars still up by six at 61-55, the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run to retake the lead at 62-61 on a 3-pointer by Hardee with 10:10 remaining.
- CSUSM retook the lead for the final time with 7:36 to play on a 3-pointer by Pope to put the Cougars up 68-67.
- East Bay soon went back up by seven at 80-73 on a Dimitrios Klonaras fast-break layup with 3:24 left.
- The Pioneers maintained a cushion of four or more points for the remaining three minutes of the contest.
- CSUEB shot 60.7% (17-of-28) in the second half while CSUSM came in at 48.6% (17-of-35).

FAST BREAKS
- The Pioneers ended the game shooting 55.6% (35-of-63) while the Cougars shot 48.4% (31-of-64).
- The loss moved the Cougars back into a tie with Sonoma State for seventh in the CCAA standings.
- CSUSM made 12 3-pointers on 26 attempts (46.2%).
- The Cougars posted fewer turnovers (15-11) and more steals (9-5) while the Pioneers had the advantage in rebounds (40-26), assists (25-16) and blocked shots (3-0).
- East Bay scored 24 fast-break points while CSUSM ended with nine.
- The game featured nine lead changes and eight ties.
- CSUSM led the game for just a minute more than CSUEB (18:32-17:32).
- With the victory, the Pioneers swept the season series against the Cougars for the very first time.
