SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (1-4) recorded a four-set victory (25-23, 23-25, 25-12, 25-18) over Concordia University Irvine to kickoff the sixth-annual Cougar Classic on Thursday night in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars took a quick 9-5 lead on a Bakken kill in the opening set, before the Golden Eagles rallied back to even the set at 10-all.
- The teams took turns taking the lead with neither team taking a lead more than three points. Down 23-22, Goff served up an ace before kills by Jennings and Hedqvist secured the first set victory at 25-23.
- The second set featured 10 ties and six lead changes with the set reaching the 23-all point once again, but this time CUI racked off the final two points to even the set at 1-1.
- The Cougars came out on fire in the third set, taking a quick 6-1 lead on a solo block by Jennings. At 9-7, the Cougars went on a 16-3 run to clinch the third-set win at 25-12. CSUSM led wire-to-wire while hitting .550 with 12 kills on 20 attempts and one error in the set.
- CSUSM found itself down 4-7 in the fourth set before rallying back to even the set at 17-all on a Jennings kill before taking its first lead of the set on a block by Barr and Bakken.
- The Cougars ended the match on a 7-1 run to clinch the match victory.
