SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (1-0-0) will continue non-conference play this week by hosting Biola (0-1-1) on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before welcoming Western Oregon (2-0-0) to The Cage on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
 
LAST WEEK

• CSUSM began the 2023 season with a 2-0 win at Concordia University Irvine on Saturday.
• Ryan Meinardus had both goals for the Cougars as he netted a penalty kick goal in the 78th minute before heading in a free kick from Stefano Brunetto in the 84th minute.
• CSUSM outshot the Golden Eagles by a 15-12 margin and had possession for 64% of the match.

HOME OPENER AGAINST BIOLA

• The Cougars and Eagles are knotted at 5-5-4 in the all-time series and are 2-2-2 when playing in San Marcos.
• Last season's contest ended in a 1-1 draw in La Mirada as Stefano Brunetto scored an early goal before Biola evened the game before the halftime break.
• CSUSM's last win over Biola occurred in 2018 in San Marcos as the Cougars pulled off a 3-2 overtime win.
• The Eagles began the season with a scoreless draw at No. 22 Cal Poly Pomona this past Thursday before taking a 2-1 loss in their home opener to Cal State Bernardino on Saturday.
• Biola was picked to finish third in the 2023 PacWest Preseason Coaches Poll with three first-place votes.
• Eagle forward Quintin Benn-John and midfielder Ethan Hardin were each named to the Preseason All-PacWest Team.

SATURDAY AGAINST THE WOLVES

• Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between CSUSM and Western Oregon.
• The Wolves are off to a 2-0 start with a 2-1 win against Hawai'I Hilo last Thursday and a 3-1 win at Hawai'I Pacifc on Sunday.
• Both Yahir Ocampo and Alejandro Velasco have two goals and four points for the season so far.
• WOU was picked to tie for the sixth and final spot in the 2023 GNAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
• 2022 was the inaugural season for the Wolves' men's soccer program.
• WOU was 2-13-2 overall last season and finished GNAC play at 1-10-1 to take last place in the conference standings.

• CSUSM's 2023 roster consists of 29 student-athletes with 20 returners and nine newcomers.
• Stefano Brunetto returns as CSUSM's points leader in 2022 as he tallied eight with two goals and four assists.
• The Cougars were picked to finish eighth in the 2023 CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
• Curtis Collazos, Oliver Reader and Derek Westwood were each named All-CCAA honorable mentions for their play during the 2022 season.

THE PULVERS FILE

• This season marks the 18th season for head coach Ron Pulvers at CSUSM.
• Pulvers has a 128-114-29 (.526) record as CSUSM's head men's coach.
• In 26 seasons as a collegiate head men's soccer coach, Pulvers holds a 254-185-43 (.572) career record.
• He was 84-42-24 (.640) while in charge of the CSUSM women's program.
• From 2006-13, Pulvers led both the CSUSM men's and women's soccer teams.
