TURLOCK, Calif. – Two first-half goals were enough for the Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (4-2-1, 1-0-0 CCAA) as it earned a 2-1 victory over Stanislaus State (3-4-1, 0-1-0 CCAA) to begin conference action on Friday at Warrior Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM took an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute on a penalty kick goal by Mendoza, who put the ball into the right side of the goal off the keeper's hands.
- Stanislaus knotted the game at 1-1 in the 22nd minute. After a pass into the right side of the box from midfield by Brewah, Heffner put a high shot over the keeper's head and into the upper left portion of the goal.
- The Cougars retook the lead for good in the 27th minute. Off a corner kick from the left side by Ramos, Kia'aina headed the ball into the net from just in front of the keeper to put CSUSM up 2-1.
- CSUSM and Stanislaus each took seven shots in the first half while the Cougars tallied 10 corner kicks.
- The Cougars held on the rest of the way as they took seven shots once again in the second half while the Warriors took five.

- This was CSUSM's first win against Stanislaus since 2017 and their first-ever win in Turlock.
- The Cougars' two goals were their most ever in the all-time series against the Warriors dating back to 2008.
- Mendoza's goal was her second of the season – both from penalty kicks.
- The goal by Kia'aina was her second of the season and gave her a team-leading seven points.
- Ramos' assist was her second of the season and moved her points total to six.
- CSUSM ended the game with a 14-12 shot lead and a 14-2 advantage on corner kicks.
- The Cougars' 14 corner kicks were their most in the NCAA Division II era (2015-present).
