SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (3-5, 2-2 CCAA) upset No. 10 Chico State (6-2, 2-2 CCAA) with a 61-53 victory on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats took their largest lead of the game at 13-4 on a layup by Isaiah Kerr at the 9:58 mark.
- CSUSM went on an 8-0 run capped with a 3-pointer by Jack Schultz at the 7:12 mark to make it 13-12 Chico.
- The Wildcats had a 23-21 lead to close out the first half.
- Both teams shot poorly from the field in the opening half with Chico going 29.6% (8-of-27) while CSUSM came in at 22.2% (6-of-27).
- Jumpers by Henderson and Collins to open the second half evened the game at 25-all with 19:07 remaining.
- CSUSM took a 37-35 lead on a 3-pointer by Pierce off a Chico turnover with 12:45 to go.
- After grabbing a long rebound, Pierce ran the length of the court for a layup to extend CSUSM's lead to 39-35 at 11:27.
- CSUSM went up by nine points at 46-37 on a jumper by Pope with 7:30 to play.
- The Wildcats cut CSUSM's lead to five at 50-45 with a fast-break layup by Miles Daniels and a layup by Evan Oliver with 2:56 remaining.
- That was as close as Chico came to CSUSM's lead as the Cougars took their largest lead of the game at 57-47 on a pair of free throws by Pierce with 43 seconds remaining.Â

FAST BREAKS
- CSUSM concluded the game shooting 33.3% (19-of-57) from the field while Chico finished at 30.2% (19-of-63).
- This was CSUSM's third consecutive win against Chico with the Cougars winning the last two games by eight points each.
- The Cougars earned their eighth victory over a top-25 team in the NCAA Division II era (2015-present) – three of which have come against the Wildcats in less than two years.
- This was CSUSM's fourth win at The Sports Center against a ranked opponent.
- The all-time series between the Cougars and Wildcats is now tied at 8-8.
- Only five CSUSM players scored in the game with just three points coming off the bench.
- Henderson tallied his third double-double of the season.
- Pierce's career-high 22 points and 13 made free throws were the most by a Cougar this season. His 13 tied for the third most in a single game in program history.
- Pierce became the first Cougar in program history to shoot 100% from the free throw line while making more than 10 free throws in a single game. There were three previous 10-of-10 performances prior to Saturday.
- The Cougars made a season-high 18 free throws on 20 attempts (90%).
- Chico's 53 points were the second fewest by a Cougar opponent this season.
