SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (2-1-1) will play its final two home non-conference games at The Cage this week as it welcomes Concordia University Irvine (0-2-0) on Wednesday at 1 p.m. and Point Loma (0-3-0) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

LAST WEEK

• CSUSM went 1-1 last week with a 2-1 win over Regis on Saturday after falling 1-0 to No. 19 Azusa Pacific on Wednesday.
• Head coach Ron Pulvers inched his way closer to 250 career wins by earning his 249th against Regis on Saturday.
• After the Cougars fell behind 1-0 early in its game against the Rangers, CSUSM scored two unanswered first-half goals from Curtis Collazos and Stefano Brunetto to secure the victory.
• Brunetto's goal was his team-leading second of the season.

WEDNESDAY AGAINST CUI

• The Golden Eagles are 0-2-0 to begin the 2022 season with a 5-1 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills and a 2-0 loss to No. 1 Cal State LA on the ledger.
• Jomar Munaf has the lone goal for CUI this season and leads the team with three shots, all of which have been on goal.
• The Golden Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the 2022 PacWest Preseason Coaches Poll while forward Alex Perez was the lone CUI player named to the Preseason All-PacWest Team.
• The Golden Eagles finished fifth in the PacWest in 2021 with a 5-3-2 record while coming in at .500 overall with a 7-7-3 mark.
• CUI has a slight lead in its all-time series against CSUSM at 5-4 and is 2-1 when playing in San Marcos.
• CSUSM and CUI last tangled in 2021 with the Golden Eagles coming out on top at 1-0 in San Marcos with a 1-0 victory ­– tying for the lowest-scoring game in the all-time series.

SATURDAY VERSUS PLNU

• Like CUI, PLNU is winless to begin the 2022 season at 0-3-0 and has yet to score a goal.
• The Sea Lions began the year with a pair of 1-0 home losses to Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino before taking a 2-0 loss on the road at Cal State Dominguez Hills this past Saturday.
• PLNU was picked second in the 2022 PacWest Preseason Coaches Poll and had four first-place votes.
• Goalkeeper Seth Ketterer, defenders Matthew Abangan and Dalton Kinney, forward Marco Astorga and midfielder Corey Lundeen were all named to the Preseason All-PacWest Team.
• PLNU missed out on the postseason in 2021 despite an 11-4-1 overall record and an 8-2 mark in PacWest play.
• CSUSM is 7-3-1 in the all-time series against PLNU and is 4-0-1 against the Sea Lions when playing in San Marcos.
• Despite the winning record against PLNU, the Cougars have been shut out in the past two games, falling 2-0 in in 2021 and 1-0 in 2019.

2022 CSUSM MEN'S SOCCER NOTES

• CSUSM's 2022 roster of 28 includes 16 returners, seven transfers and five freshmen.
• The Cougars return three of their six goal scorers from last season in Riley Patterson, Curtis Collazos and Tristan Monroe.
• In 2021, the Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 4-12-1.
• CSUSM finished ninth in the CCAA standings with a 3-7-1 record.
• The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in the 2022 CCAA Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.
• Starting this season, the NCAA has eliminated overtime periods from men's and women's soccer regular-season games. All games tied after 90 minutes will end in a draw.

THE PULVERS FILE

• This season marks the 17th season for head coach Ron Pulvers at CSUSM.
• Pulvers has a 123-106-27 (.533) record as CSUSM's head men's coach.
• In 26 seasons as a collegiate head men's soccer coach, Pulvers holds a 249-177-41 (.577) career record.
• He was 84-42-24 (.640) while in charge of the CSUSM women's program.
• From 2006-13, Pulvers led both the CSUSM men's and women's soccer teams.
