SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (2-1-1) fended off Regis (1-3-0) by a score of 2-1 on Sunday morning at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Rangers got on the board early in the third minute. Off a pass from the top of the box by Willson, Jimenez took a shot from just right of the penalty kick marker and put the ball into the center of the net for the game's first goal.
• The Cougars quickly responded in the seventh minute to even things at 1-1. After a throw in by Westwood was headed back to him at the top right corner of the box, he put a cross into the box that was headed into the center of the net by Collazos from just in front of the Ranger keeper.
• CSUSM took the lead for good in the 21st minute. On a Cougar throw in, Monroe headed a pass from the top right corner of the keeper's box and found Brunetto on the left side. Brunetto proceeded to put the ball into the left side of the net and gave CSUSM a 2-1 lead.
• The Rangers ended the first half with a 6-3 shot advantage and led in corner kicks at 6-2.
• Regis put up a heavy offensive in the second half, outshooting CSUSM 11-6 while taking three corners, but the Cougars held firm and came away with the win.

• The Rangers outshot the Cougars 17-9 while also having a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.
• Brunetto's goal was his team-leading second of the season while Collazos' goal and assists by Westwood and Monroe were their firsts of the season.
• Collazos led CSUSM with two shots, both of which were on goal.
• CSUSM's possessions occurred in Regis territory 52% of the match.
• This was the first-ever meeting between CSUSM and Regis.
• The Cougars last began a season at 2-1-1 in 2017.
