CSUSM Welcomes East Bay, Stanislaus for CCAA Openers

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Opening up CCAA play this weekend at The Cage, the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (2-4-1) will host Cal State East Bay (2-3-2) on Friday at 3 p.m. before turning its attention to Stanislaus State (3-1-3) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
LAST WEEK
  • CSUSM fell 1-0 in its final non-conference game at (RV) Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday.
  • The Coyotes broke the stalemate with a 74th-minute goal.
  • The Cougars were outshot 9-4 but held a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.

CCAA OPENER AGAINST EAST BAY

  • The Pioneers capped off non-conference play with a pair of draws as they tied Academy of Art at 2-2 before a 1-1 tie against Stanislaus State.
  • Friday will be just the second road game of the season for the Pioneers.
  • East Bay's only two wins came against non-Division II opponents UC Merced and UC Santa Cruz.

SUNDAY AGAINST STANISLAUS

  • Prior to visiting San Marcos, the Warriors will head over to Cal State San Bernardino for their CCAA opener on Friday.

2022 CSUSM MEN'S SOCCER NOTES

  • CSUSM's 2022 roster of 28 includes 16 returners, seven transfers and five freshmen.
  • The Cougars return three of their six goal scorers from last season in Riley Patterson, Curtis Collazos and Tristan Monroe.
  • In 2021, the Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 4-12-1.
  • CSUSM finished ninth in the CCAA standings with a 3-7-1 record.
  • The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in the 2022 CCAA Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.

  • This season marks the 17th season for head coach Ron Pulvers at CSUSM.
  • Pulvers has a 123-109-27 (.527) record as CSUSM's head men's coach.
  • In 26 seasons as a collegiate head men's soccer coach, Pulvers holds a 249-180-41 (.573) career record.
  • He was 84-42-24 (.640) while in charge of the CSUSM women's program.
